Crafting On

The act of creating, in one form or another, preserves my sanity amongst the chaos of life. This explains why I always have more than one project going at a time as well as why my housework tends to fall behind. I enjoy seeing what others are working on and keeping calm with, too. What are you creating? What is keeping you going? Snap a picture or two, post it on your blog, on Instagram #craftingon and/or Flickr and then share it with the rest of us by leaving your link below.

This Crafting On is focused on something that K is making - a cabled headband. She has been wanting to learn how to cable for quite sometime. When this kit came to us in the mail last week it was obvious that it was meant for her - even the color screams her name. She actually already finished one cabled headband and had enough yarn left to knit a second one so she is making this one to give to a friend in her RE class.

First Snow

first snow first snow first snow IMG_1223 IMG_1224 yum yesterday it was autumn snow hay field snow snow snow snow snowman snow chicken snow chicken snow snow snow IMG_1294 IMG_1296 IMG_1302 snowman

Last week we experienced our first snow in Pennsylvania. It came out of nowhere. Just the day before we were raking the leaves around our magnolia tree and now they are all buried. What a magical time. This was Baby F's first time really experiencing snow as he was too tiny when we lived in Idaho and we didn't get any snow in Oregon. He loved it and never wanted to come back inside - just like all his siblings. We are looking forward to many more winter wonderland days in the future!

crafting on Do you ever feel like a project you are working on is doomed? Ha. I have come to the conclusion that this one surely is. I finally mustered the motivation to complete the farmyard play mat that I started 10 years ago for C. Six of the squares are good but six more need to be re-knit. I started on the first one only to discover about halfway through that I didn't have enough yarn. I am wondering if this is a sign that I should just give up? Then again my boys were playing with the squares as soon as I pulled them out so perhaps I should persevere.

Real life Pevensie children (Aslan, too!)

The Pevensie children with Aslan
“To the glistening eastern sea, I give you Queen Lucy the Valiant. To the great western woods, King Edmund the Just. To the radiant southern sun, Queen Susan the Gentle. And to the clear northern skies, I give you King Peter the Magnificent. Once a king or queen of Narnia, always a king or queen of Narnia. May your wisdom grace us until the stars rain down from the heavens.”

By now I think you know my feelings about Halloween. This year was different, though. My children requested to be the Pevensie children from the Chronicles of Narnia (our favorite books). It worked out perfectly since I have exactly 2 girls and 2 boys, just like the Pevensies. There was a lot of sewing involved but it was worth it. They requested outfits from the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe movie instead of the books so that more people might recognize who they were. To our surprise most did! I think Beowulf stepping in as Aslan really helped. Some people thought they were a medieval court but then understood once we mentioned Narnia. I think it is safe to say this was their best Halloween yet. Even better still that they now have Narnia costumes to wear on their adventures out in our woods every day. Long live Narnia!!
