Crafting On

The act of creating, in one form or another, preserves my sanity amongst the chaos of life. This explains why I always have more than one project going at a time as well as why my housework tends to fall behind. I enjoy seeing what others are working on and keeping calm with, too. What are you creating? What is keeping you going? Snap a picture or two, post it on your blog, on Instagram #craftingon and/or Flickr and then share it with the rest of us by leaving your link below.

I have a new obsession with rompers and overalls on babies so naturally my next knitting project would be some ridiculously adorable overall shorts. This golden yellow yarn seemed perfect for the pattern but gray is also calling my name. Perhaps Baby F will have to have one in each color.

settling in

all.day.long ripping apart the ergo one thread at a time yum! siblings IMG_9574 IMG_9583 IMG_9581 IMG_9586 hi dada! IMG_9378 Still settling in to this new life. We have a couple more weeks until Kevin starts college so we are enjoying having him home while we can. Daily beach play and long lazy days - yes please! However, the need for structure is being apparent so schooling will be starting back up very soon. I have been putting it off waiting for everything to be just so but it hit me that the perfect scenario will never exist so I just need to get on with it - house full of boxes and clutter and all!

The place we are renting is only about thirteen miles from the beach but it is up on some hills in the woods. It is funny just how different the weather is from our home to the beach. We will be in short sleeves at our house and then coats and hats at the beach. Although my three older children seem to be oblivious to the cold - running and jumping into the ocean with coats on! Ha!

The house hunt isn't going much better here than it was from afar in Idaho. We are contemplating building our own log cabin now but the thought of just how long that would take is a bit frightening. However, the thought of having something built with our own hands does sound well worth the wait. We'll see! Lots of thought and prayer going into this next step in life.

p.s. - Somehow I managed to go all my life without trying strawberry and rhubarb together. One pie was all it took - I am obsessed!

Baby F's romper is completed minus buttons (which should arrive this week). I just had enough yarn to finish it. We are talking just a few inches left. Close call for sure. I am in between projects at the moment while I wait on a pattern so I decided to make up a pattern for a little kerchief/bandana for Baby F. They are so much cuter than scarves on babies, don't you think? I love how this colorway (Luna Grey yarn in mushroom) matches the weathered wood of the bench by the fire pit. So cozy!

Overdue

Just before we left: before we left Play derby derby Derby with Trail Life volunteering before we left volunteering before we left Volunteering one last time packing IMG_9158 Life boxed up cleaning help Cleaning help K's note to the housekeepers in the temporary lodging facility on base A child's gratitude left to the housekeepers in the temporary lodging facility on base

On the road: that hair! co-pilot road trip road trip Arriving at the coast: sunset love first beach play walking on sand for the first time feels weird!
Hello, hello! Long time no see, huh? Well, as I am sure you know, we have been a bit busy. We survived our final house inspection just barely scraping by. In the end we owed the contracting company $431, and while that is a lot of money for us, it is nothing compared to what others have told us they were charged. I am not dwelling on it and just moving forward.

The road trip from our little town in Idaho to the Oregon coast was beautiful and scary (well, only for me - I don't like driving in mountains, especially at night!). I am so grateful that my little baby who strongly dislikes car rides slept through most of the trip. We didn't arrive to the coast until very late at night but we still had to go see the ocean. The children were in heaven, especially my shark loving boy (although he was upset that there weren't any sharks just hanging out in the waves waiting to greet him.). We have been spending every free moment since then at the beach just soaking it all in and throwing our worries to the wind. Baby F was absolutely perplexed feeling sand beneath his feet for the first time. He had me giggling as he tried walking on it, not quite able to get his footing. But boy let me tell you, once he figured it out he became daredevil boy. Whenever we put him down now he runs as fast as he can straight to the ocean, giving me heart attacks each time.

Kevin already switched our vehicle information over to Oregon and we got our new licenses. I have a little story to go with that - We had to take drivers test for them and I failed! Apparently a lot has changed in the last seventeen years since I took my first test and well, Oregon has some strange rules. Kevin and my children found it all very funny. I even texted my Mom joking about my failure. Thankfully I passed when I retook the exam the next day.

Now that we are here, and I am actually sitting down for the first time in what feels like months, it is time to focus on homeschooling catch up (stricter homeschooling laws here *sigh*) and finding our home! I am very grateful for a roof over our heads but we are literally bursting at the seams of this tiny house.  If that isn't motivation to find a place then I don't know what is!

crafting on (rain drops)
I am truly sorry that I have been so MIA. I keep thinking things are going to slow down a bit and I'll be able to get back to my usual posting rhythm but it seems with every step I take towards that goal, I take another step or two back. Right now keeping up with the Crafting On posts seems nothing short of a miracle. Alas, I know it will all smooth out soon. I hope you will all bear with me and know that I will be back in the space regularly soon!

In knitting news - I am still working on Baby F's seaside romper. I am nearly finished but realized I would almost definitely need another skein of yarn. Would you believe I threw away the tags for this yarn before the move? So of course I have no way of figuring out the colorway now. I posted on ravelry with no response and even contacted the manufacturer. I am sad to say they were of no help. They just told me that it was from one of their older lines. I knew that already. sigh Oh well. Any guesses from you guys? It is Blue Sky Fibers organic cotton in worsted weight. The blue is almost like a royal blue. It is the yarn my MIL found in her thrift store in PA.

What are you working on? Happy creating!
p.s. - I took my knitting outside to photograph since it was such a grey sky day and then it starting raining (hence, the rain drops in the photo). Oh Oregon, I should have known better!

Crafting On Hey everyone!! I apologize for my absence last week. We were without internet so I had no way to host Crafting On. Our internet is still a bit spotty but I will be back soon with more on our move. In the meantime lets talk knitting, shall we? I cast on this cute little romper for Baby F to wear to the beach this summer. I am trying to upsize it just a bit with bigger needles and yarn. We'll see how it turns out. I hope it fits. Crossing my fingers and toes.
