Keep Calm Craft On {crafting on}

The act of creating, in one form or another, preserves my sanity amongst the chaos of life. This explains why I always have more than one project going at a time as well as why my housework tends to fall behind. I enjoy seeing what others are working on and keeping calm with, too. What are you creating? What is keeping you going? Snap a picture or two, post it on your blog, on Instagram #craftingon and/or Flickr and then share it with the rest of us by leaving your link below.
KCCO I am currently working on some baby knitting to give to my pregnant friends before we leave here. Alas, no photos just yet though. Instead I thought I would share K's current WIP. She started this embroidery sampler a couple of years ago and then it got sucked into our home's black hole. It resurfaced the other day so now she is back at it. As I watched her work on it today it became clear to me that she might have my perfectionist gene - she thought her original stitches (from two years ago) were too sloppy and ripped them out so she could start all over fresh.

I picked my Hackberry back up after an unintended hiatus from it since December. Baby projects always seem to take precedence over everything else. I guess they need to since babies grow so fast and well, I just want to knit all the baby things.

Absent

sleep sleep sleep sleep Sorry, I just can't get enough of sleeping baby photos! V- day Linzer cookies Three out of my four children are under the weather as of right now, including my sweet baby. He is finally sleeping and I am about to go join him. I know I have been absent in this space a lot more than usual lately. I was hoping to get back to a better rhythm with blogging starting tonight but I might just have to push it off a bit longer. I am missing my routine. I have been pretty active over on Instagram, though. I admit I post there pretty regularly since there is more interaction. Blogging has become a bit lonely. Does anyone read blogs anymore? I still do, but I know I am not one to go with the crowd.

Happy Valentines day!

I haven't yet sewn the button on Baby F's popcorn vest, I keep going back and forth between the black walnut and the red cedar ones. There will be a button on that vest by the end of the week though! In other news, inspired by some new friends on Instagram, I am knitting Baby F a pixie hat or as C used to call them a "Gnomie, gnomie, gnomie hat". She and K wore them a lot their first few years of life.

Just give in

Oh well, C took advantage of the latest snowfall  and made herself some snow ice cream. climbing everything dive, dive, dive! Dive! in Made it. getting out Back out. Repeat all.day.long. So much fun to watch.

We just found out that (as of right now) we have a move out date of...wait for it...Easter Sunday. I am hoping that is some computer generated date we can talk them out of. Call me crazy but I would actually like to attend Mass and celebrate Easter instead of moving out of our home that day. Ahem. That news was followed by our 13 year old washing machine breaking again. Our children have been having fun watching their stuffed animals get baths in the washing machine. They would leave the lid open and press the lid switch with their fingers to keep the machine going. Perhaps they were having a bit too much fun. Oh well. Thankfully the needed part was inexpensive and should arrive by the end of the week. I won't even go into our tax return drama. Ha! It has just been one of those weeks!

So much to be looking forward to and grateful for though - Little L is turning six oh so soon, C will be celebrating her First Holy Communion (we weren't certain it would happen before we moved but just got the news today it will) and I get to go in for a root canal I have needed since my early twenties! Okay, I might not be looking forward to the root canal but I am indeed grateful to get it taken care of while we still have decent dental insurance.

Baby F's birthday sweater was completed on his birthday but with the gloomy skies it was impossible to get photos of him in it. I finally just gave up on waiting and decided to snap a few photos, despite the clouds, on a little field trip in Boise. I am hoping to get better shots once the sun decides to grace us with his presence again.

Details: Yarn is from my friend Ginny at GSheller. I couldn't quite capture the beautiful greens and blues in this yarn but trust me it is breathtaking in person. The buttons are from my favorite button shop - WoolyMossRoots. I made the same mods to this sweater as I did to Little L's sweater I made him for is first birthday. Rav notes here.

Speaking of the birthday boy - He took his first official steps on Monday. He kept taking a couple of steps here and there throughout the day but then that evening he took about ten steps across a room while we were at AHG!

Surprise, surprise - another project in gray with a photo taken on a gray and gloomy day. This is the popcorn vest by Studio Misha and Puff.  I am surprised at how quickly it is coming along. Baby F might even be able to wear it next week.

Relishing

snow outside outside outside swing "skating" on ice tight grip happy so happy just can't get enough of his toothy grins love him so ride fox drawn by little L sweet dreams a rarity The temperatures are still frigid outside and I don't think this snow has any intention of leaving anytime soon. Kevin and the girls have been taking the opportunity to test out their cold weather camping gear. I think they are slightly crazy but then again I am happily relishing a house with a good heating system - a luxury we did not have back in Oregon.

Baby F decided not to take his nap today only to fall asleep about two minutes after I put him in the Tula on my back. Of course that was right before we were heading out the door. But never mind that -  I had to soak in that moment of sweetness. I took him off of me to get dressed and he stayed asleep. That is a rarity, for sure. Nap time is becoming more and more of a struggle each day. I am hoping this nap strike isn't becoming a trend. Little L gave up naps early and that was a challenge I was hoping to avoid with Baby F. I'm crossing my fingers it's teething causing all of this.
